CHATEAU PIGOUDET stretches across slopes of clay and limestone soil, at an average altitude of 400 m above sea level, northeast of Aix-en-Provence.
The Château itself was built upon the ruins of an important Roman „Villa“, with the vineyards already dating back to the VIIth Century B.C., planted by the ancient Greeks from Marseille.
Its charming landscape fits its noble past:
The Château is surrounded by roughly 100 acres of vineyards, scattered across 300 acres of perfumed hills and varied forests with cedar trees, hundreds of years old, majestic cypresses and oak trees, as well as several varieties of sequoias, unique in this region.
An ancient oratory from the XIIIth Century where farmers used to pray for good harvests is still intact and an old chapel commemorates a Greek and later Roman divinity, protecting the spring water running at her feet.
The Château Pigoudet estate grows exclusively high quality grapes: Red Cabernet-Syrah, Rosé Grenache-Cinsault, which entitles it to the appellation of guaranteed vintage from the Aix-en-Provence district: Apellation d`Origine Contrôlée des Coteaux d`Aix-en-Provence.
Château Pigoudet is located on 40 of sun-drenched hectares of land. The soil is a mixture of clay and chalk with a gravelly consistency. The vineyard produces approximately 50 hectoliters of wine per hectare. Our wines age in barrels for 12 months (red wine) or 24 months (Grandes Cuvées) before being bottled in our own cellar.
Château Pigoudet has received many awards for its wines over the last few years.
